Dan Rupprecht, founder and chairman of R&R Realty Group, was inducted to the Iowa Business Hall of Fame‘s class of 2020 last week.
Dan started his career as a high school math teacher and coach in Grand Island, Nebraska. To this day, he considers some of his most significant successes to be the kids he coached and mentored. In 1967, Dan transitioned to the world of real estate with a position at Principal Financial Group. His responsibilities included managing its national real estate equity and joint venture portfolio, as well as the origination and servicing of commercial loans in the western one-half of the United States. Well-known projects bearing his fingerprints from this era include Civic Center Court Apartments, East Grand Office Park and the Downtown Des Moines Marriott Hotel.
Dan has also been significantly involved with the Iowa State University Research Park in Ames. He was an early member of the initiative’s board of directors and as such, was a key player in the development of several buildings within the park. Today, this initiative is a key component of the Cultivation Corridor and houses successful companies including Workiva, a financial reporting platform and NewLink Genetics, developers of a vaccine for the Ebola Virus.
Dan was born and raised in Howells, Nebraska and received a bachelors degree in mathematics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He credits his small-town childhood for instilling a passion for community service. This passion has been expressed by Dan’s tenure on the Pleasant Hill City Council and as a member of the Iowa State University Athletics Advisory Council. Dan has also served on the board of directors for Mid-American Savings Bank, The J.C. Nichols Company and the Iowa State University Research Park.
Dan’s faith and love of children have been important factors in his life, which is why he has made significant contributions to capital campaigns for schools including, Dowling Catholic High School, Holy Family School, Saint Joseph School and Saint Francis School. Dan has also proudly served as a trustee for Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines and as a member of the Building Committee for the Diocese of Des Moines.
